The Ghost of Amityville
In 1974, this bloody murder really blew up Amityville. Ronald DeFeo, a 23 year old guy killed his parents as well as two younger sisters and two younger brothers in their own beds. He was given a life sentence, and their house at 108 Ocean Avenue was sold. The new tenants – Lutz’s family consisting of parents and three children moved in a year after the crime committed. But less than in a month they left the house because of numerous “paranormal activities”. As George Lutz said, every night in 3.15 (the time of the murder), he woke up because of music sounding from somewhere. But when he started looking for the source of the sound, it stopped. The photo is dated from 1976. It depicts a small boy with white eyes standing in a doorway. This shot was allegedly made by a well-known photographer Gene Campbell, whose hobby was ghost hunting, and who investigated the old house. Nowadays the house that used to belong to DeFeos is considered to be haunted due to 2 movies dedicated to this bloody story.
Dead husband of an old woman
This picture of a 94 year old woman was taken in 1998 by her granddaughter. It was made during a picnic, where the old lady living in the nursing center was invited at weekend. The photograph was not printed immediately – the developed film had been put aside forgotten for some years. In spring 2000 the senior woman died and her grandchildren decided to find a good photo of her. Looking through forgotten materials they encountered this film and printed the picture. Just imagine their surprise when they saw somebody standing right behind their granny. This “somebody” resembled her husband, who had died sixteen years ago, in 1984. But that’s even not all. Closer inspection of the photograph revealed one weird face in the background. It is located in the left corner of the picture, right above the red car. Maybe, it is just a figment of the imagination, but it looks really impressive, isn’t it?
The Cooper Family’s Ghost
This picture is often believed to be fake because it seems too weird and terrifying to be true. But the members of Cooper family were ready to swear that this was neither a prearranged scene, nor a joke. When they moved to their newly bought house in Texas, they were really happy. Soon the Coopers decided to organize a small housewarming party. Of course, this party had to be captured by a camera. When the film was developed, they saw two smiling women with small children at the table, and… a horrifying black figure hanging headfirst from the ceiling. All the people present were absolutely sure that they didn’t see anything like this in reality. Nobody had any idea of who or what it could be. Finally, it was decided that the figure was a ghost of a former house owner, who died some time ago. But whoever it was, the image looks really terrifying. We can only guess what poor Coopers experienced when they saw it.
This black and white picture is over 100 years old – it was taken in 1907 in Greater Victoria, British Columbia. A company of fishers hold a sea creature, which was allegedly caught by them in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. The creature looks like Cadborosaurus – a mythological sea monster. Its existence is not proved by any fact as well as the existence of the Loch-Ness monster, but in different time periods there appeared numerous witnesses who swore that they had seen it by their own eyes. This photo had to become the final evidence of Cadborosaurus’s existence, but it didn’t. It was immediately estimated as fake, as the monster itself hadn’t been demonstrated by the fishers. All they could provide was this picture. At the same time specialists couldn’t say for sure whether it was a prearranged scene or a real photo. More than 100 years has passed since that moment, but there is still no a single answer to this question. Scientists don’t know what it is, but it looks pretty creepy.
Demon in the Hospital Captured with Surveillance
This picture in reality is a frame of footage obtained from a surveillance camera in a hospital. A nurse that was on duty that night, was the first to see a weird black figure, moving slowly along the patient’s bed. In several hours this patient died. At first nobody believed her, but footage taken from a surveillance camera confirmed her story. In the video it is seen that a blurred black silhouette was walking on the bed along the body of a dying man. When the picture was first published, it was immediately admitted to be fake. However, people working in hospitals for a long time say that they are not surprised with the image. As in hospitals people die regularly, their angels or demons often visit them before death. Stories about supernatural creatures and various figures are not rare in the medical environment. But nowadays, when cameras are everywhere, it became possible to register some of them.
This photo was taken in the walls of a former tuberculosis sanatorium called Waverly Hills. It was opened in 1910. At that time, tuberculosis was considered an incurable disease: the medical science then didn’t know effective drugs for its treatment apart from sunshine and fresh air. So, about 95% of the patients died from the disease, and only 5% were able to survive. All in all, for the period of the sanatorium’s existence, over 8 thousand patients had died within its walls. No wonder that the staff of the sanatorium had to deal with a lot of dead bodies every day. It couldn’t but influenced their minds. Nobody knows for sure what happened to Mary Lee, who worked as a nurse in Waverly Hills, but one day she was found dead. The girl hanged herself in one of the rooms. Some people said that she was pregnant; others believed that she caught tuberculosis herself and didn’t want to suffer. The picture was taken much later, and it clearly depicts the ghost of Mary, who is still hanging under the ceiling of that very room.
Solway Firth Spaceman
This picture of a charming smiling girl was made one summer day by her father, Jim Templeton. That day Jim, his wife and their daughter had a picnic in the country in Solway Firth in Cumbria, England. The weather was sunny, and happy father took a lot of bright pictures of his family. Some later, he took the film to Kodak office for it to be developed and printed. When he received the photos, he noticed a strange figure in one of the pictures, right behind his daughter. The figure was all white and resembled a spaceman wearing a spacesuit. But Jim was absolutely confident that there wasn’t anyone, when he was shooting. Nobody including Kodak staff could explain what it was. Jim sent the photo to a newspaper, and it gained enormous popularity. However, the mystery was not resolved. Nobody could identify the figure. Jim himself believed that it could be a ghost of a dead spaceman. Maybe it is really so, who knows.
If you look closely to this picture made in 1959, you’ll be able to notice that there are two figures in the cat, not one. The author of the shot is a certain Mabel Chinnery, who was visiting the grave of her mother that day. The woman was accompanied by her husband, who is sitting the driver’s seat. Mabel decided to take a picture of her husband in a car after visiting cemetery. When the picture was ready, the woman was incredibly surprised. It was clearly seen there was someone else in the car, on the backseat. After a closer inspection Mabel concluded that it was her dead mother. Nobody could say for sure whether this photo was fake or genuine. But specialists who have to estimate weird images say that close relatives or beloved ones often appear in photos. They protect their living close people and support them. Such ghosts can do no harm. Maybe Mabel’s mother just wanted to be near her family at that moment also.
A Ghost On The Set Of 3 Men and a Baby
Sometimes ghosts get not only in the photos of ordinary people, but in professionally shot films. The picture above is a frame of a comedy feature film “Three Men and a Baby” that was released in late eighties of the last century. On the backgrounds of the scene you can see a figure of a little boy behind the curtains. But the crew working at the film set at that moment insists that there was no anybody in reality. There were no little boys around at all. Some people believe that it is a little ghost hiding behind those curtains. According to the official line, this figure is just a cutout of the film character that was accidentally left there. But later an actor playing this character was captured near the cutout, and it turned out that it looked absolutely differently from the mysterious figure. This is why many people still believe it was a small curious ghost, who wanted to take part in the moviemaking process.
The Brown Lady
The Raynham Hall Ghost picture is considered to be the classic of the genre. This ghost is known as the Brown Lady also. The photo was taken by Major Loftus in 1849. This man used to be a close friend of a woman who was later called the Brown Lady. Her real-life name was Dorothy Walpole, and she was a wife of a certain Charles Townshend, who suspected that she was unfaithful to him. Officially, the woman died soon after the wedding, but people gossiped that her funeral was fake. It was believed that Charles locked his wife up somewhere in his house until her death. The author of the picture said that when he saw a white figure, he understood at once that it was Dorothy. He also managed to see huge black holes instead her eyes. He took just one picture of the ghost before it disappeared. Because of low quality of the picture it is difficult to understand what it really is, so let it be the Brown Lady.
Ghosts At The Myrtle Plantation
St. Francisvilleis one of the oldest American cities founded in the beginning of the 19th century. Notorious Myrtle Plantation belonged to Sara and Mark Woodruffs. Like everyone at that period of time they had slaves. One of their female slaves, Chloe by name, one day heard over their masters’ talk. To punish her, Mark ordered to cut off her ears. The poor woman had to hide her defect till the end of life by wearing a green head wrap. One day Chloe decided to settle a score with her evil master. She cooked a cake and added poisoned leaves into it. But her plan failed: Mark didn’t eat the cake, but his wife and their two daughters did. All the three women died. All the rest slaves who loved Sara got angry with Chloe. They killed her and threw her body into the river. Since that time the ghost of Chloe accompanied with other 11 ghosts has been regularly visiting Myrtle. It is believed that Myrtle is one of the haunted placed in the United States.
Sit Still, Cowboy
This photo was taken at a cemetery near a small town with a self-explanatory name – Tombstone, located in Arizona State. It was in this way: one day in 1996 a man named Ike Clanton came here for a photo shoot. Though weird it may seem, he chose the cemetery for taking some pictures. The man was dressed like a real cowboy. When in some days he developed the film and printed the photos, he saw… another cowboy sitting in the grass right behind him. But Clanton was absolutely sure that his photographer and he were the only people at the cemetery at the moment. Being a stubborn person, Clanton decided to go back and try to reproduce the scene. According to his words, any tome he tried to shoot from that position, there was this cowboy silhouette in the backgrounds. Of course, nobody believed him, but the man insisted on his theory. But isn’t this picture an evidence of the grave haunting? Who knows.
He couldn’t be present at this photo!
Death of Freddy Jackson, a pilot participating in the World War I, was really tragic. He was accidently hit by the airplane propeller during training. It happened in 1919. His funeral was organized according to all existing rules, after which his squadron decided to make a memorable photo. Everything was absolutely normal, but when the pilots saw a ready-made picture, they were really shocked. There was Freddy himself in the back row, smiling and alive. The squadron members didn’t believe their eyes, but the fact remained. There is an opinion that this is just a fake. At that time such technique as superimposing was popular. In simple words, many people imposed images of dead relatives and close friends over newly made photos. But the participants of that photo shoot said they didn’t know anything about it. Moreover, they were frightened by Freddy’s presence. So, who knows what it really was. Chances are, Freddy himself came to say good-bye to his friends.
The Wedding Ghost
This was a usual day for Neil Sandbach. He worked as a wedding photographer and was preparing for the shooting of a young couple in Hertfordshire (England). That time a picturesque barn was chosen as a scene for shooting. The photographer arrived beforehand as usual, set up his equipment and made several trial shots. When later he developed the film, he was shocked. In of these trial pictures there was a figure of a small boy wearing a long white gown or nighty. The figure was glowing slightly. The photographer went back to the barn and asked the staff whether they knew anything of the figure. To his surprise, they confirmed his fears – a ghost of a small boy in a white old-fashioned nighty appears from time to time in the surroundings. He seems to be floating above the floor, then stares at people and disappears in a moment. Nobody knows for sure who he is and what he is doing here. Maybe he lived in Hertfordshire long ago.
The White Lady
This photo was taken in Worstead Church, Norfolk, England. A woman depicted in the photo is Diane Berthelot, who visited the church together with her husband Peter and their son. While she was praying, Peter decided to take a photo. Later, when the photo was printed, it turned out that Diane is not alone there. In the backgrounds one can clearly see a figure of a lady in a long white dress and old-fashioned hat. Impressed Berthelots tried to find out what it could mean. They managed to return to this church only in a year, next summer. When they showed the picture to one of the churchmen, Reverend Pettit, he told them the story about “White Lady”. This ghost was also known as a Healer. She came to the church when someone was ill and asked for help. Diane managed to remember that at that period of time she was seriously ill. So, the woman believed that White Lady really came to visit and assist her.
