James Coonan – Harm Set, Harm Get
Jimmy “C” Coonan, a cold-blooded killer of the 60s, made his first gunshots at the age of 20 from a rooftop in Manhattan. In 1964 it was he who established “The Westies” - a group of real junks who played a significant role in the criminal life over the next twenty years. They seized drug control and made counterfeiting, and they were not above hitting people as well. Jimmy Coonan was a damned daredevil, he murdered his victims, minced the corpses and dropped them in the Hudson River. Nobody dared to stay on his way: he even blew away his mentor Stein. When Mickey Featherstone, Coonan’s closest comrade, refused to approve the Italian affairs, Jimmy decided to put him in a frame. He dressed the man out of their gang like Mickey and sent him to gun down a man. Featherstone found himself on a defendant’s bench, but soon it appeared that the real puppeteer was Coonan. Now Jimmy serves his time until the year 2063.

These kids were ruthless as hell despite of their young age and never missed a possibility to siphon off cash from everyone who had a misfortune to cross their road. The “Shadows” protected themselves by opening fire on the streets and chance witnesses often became victims of such shoot-outs. Nicky was believed to be almost immortal – so many murder attempts he avoided. One could even hear the bullets tinkle in his body! At the very start of his career he was a member in “Five Points”, and many of the Scorcese’s fans know what it means. Yes, you can see it in his blockbuster “Gangs of New York”. But could you even imagine that Al had left a bloody trail behind him as a criminal boss… before reaching the age of Jesus? Nowadays we observe a weird tendency to regard this devil’s servant as a kind of Robin Hood! Though the methods Capone used to blow up his rivals would rather make the famous legendary robber’s face become red. After murdering of his enemy O’Banion, the real gang war set out. Al intended to eliminate all the remains of “rival firm”. On St. Valentine’s Day the massacre was initiated and seven persons were shot down. Al Capone didn’t go to the court when he had been summoned there. His evasion was… stomach problem.
Louis Buchalter – Slaughterous Businessman

Having spent his early youth in places of freedom deprivation, he then launched his own criminal business in New York City. The scheme was like this: a ringleader, aspiring to use others to pull the chestnuts out of the fire, engaged for that purpose Mr. Buchalter. The latter, in his turn, hired street junks who committed hits. That disgusting and bloody business would bring Louis one million dollars a year. He commanded over 250 cutthroats who obeyed their master like greyhounds. Everything went quite smoothly until Louis snuffed out a confectionery owner who seemed to him to cooperate with the attorney. Buchalter went into hiding but finally was caught. The court sentenced him to the death on an electric chair. Since that time mafia leaders had to engage their own killers.
Semion Yudkovich Mogilevich – Educated Mob
Talking about this guy one would remember the famous exclamation of Jules in “Pulp Fiction”: “Check out the big brain on Brad!” Yeah, Mr. Mogilevich was not only cold stone gangster possessing drug flows, committing contract hits and dealing with nuclear staff. That monster had received an economic degree as well. Semion showed his mastery ever since he became the leader of the crime group. Like a spider he caught in his web factions in Los Angeles, New York City and even so far as in New Zealand. In the end of 1990s Mogilevich managed to trade the entire company on the stock market, which brought him one and a half million dollars of net income! That don was even called the most imperious gangster in the world. He is also clever enough to capitalize upon gas supplying. Additionally, Mogilevich is accused of being guilty of organized crook schemes. A real devil incarnation, and a smart one!
James “Whitey” Bulger – A Murderous Rat
For all admirers of true criminal stories which could literally freeze one’s soul, the true story of James “Whitey” Bulger would be of great interest. In the beginning of his bloody career that man was no other than an insignificant piece of a hoodlum of South Boston. Step by step Burgler sailed up the river of his life and finally became a real bifacial monster. He closed a deal with FBI and snitched all his rivals, going on with killing and stealing without any obstacles on his way. Neither more nor less – a real demon. He even stooped so low as to stand bail for the step-daughter of his friend just with the purpose… to murder her. The reason was that she had stayed overnight in prison and could break some secrets. Burgler scragged her with his own hands. With the flow of time his successful criminal activity finally crushed and he ran away. He was caught in California and came to trial. No wonder that for all his crimes he won’t leave prison through the whole course of remaining lifetime...
Dario Antonio Úsuga, aka Otoniel – Drug Magister
It was not so long ago that Mexico intercepted the crown of the leader of drug contraband. But earlier Colombia possessed the title of “queen” of illegal substance trafficking, the most popular of which was cocaine. This drug is still being actively produced in that country, which allows to believe that cocaine is in great requisition there. The man who runs things in Colombian drug trafficking is 45-years old Dario Úsuga, also known as “Otoniel” in criminal world. He is regarded as the chief drug kingpin of Colombia. And what is more interesting – he’s still freeside. Moving forward his dirty business, Otoniel together with his buddies is suggested to gain more than sixty million bucks of street value… per week! Still he’s not from those who looks on his laurels. Otoniel is also known for hiring junks to commit assassinations or racketeering for everybody who’s ready to pay. Seems that for Mr. Úsuga there’s no forbidden doings provided that they bring profit in his pocket.
Nicodemo Scarfo – the Second Al?
Small people with Napoleon intentions never feel quite happy. They often experience misunderstandings with their surrounding which even may result in quarrels and offence. But let’s imagine a boss of a criminal Philadelphia family whose nickname was “Little Nicky”! That man was Nicodemo Scarfo, and if you had an acute wish of death, you could straightly call him “little” in his face. The same very moment he would pull out his gun and shoot you down. Such was this gangster, who admired the legendary figure of Al Capone and strove to lead the same life as that famous don. That was a strange behavior of a kid, who doesn’t want to part from his favorite toy. Nicodemo sometimes charged his flunkies with committing hits in the public spotlight, and next morning he would anxiously flip through the newspaper trying to find his name. Scarfo enjoyed his illusions not so long, and in the end of 80s he was sent to prison. He died in 2017.
Salvatore Riina – Beast From Sicily
The nicknames of this monster were “the beast” (la belva) and the “boss of the bosses” (il capo dei capi). These were damn right about him. Salvatore started his crime career at Sicily where re really came to power in 70s. At that time heroin was “manna from heaven” for Sicilian mobsters. Riina was extremely cruel even as for those dark times of gang wars, he annihilated everyone who interfered with his illegal business. There’s no secret that Sicilian mafia bosses enjoyed to attract public’s attention appearing everywhere with civil servants. Salvatore preferred to keep in the background, killing at the same time judges, statesmen and police servants. When Riina finally felt that it was getting really tough, he decided to distract the public eye and committed the terrorist attack. It was bombing of a train which claimed seventeen lives. Authorities didn’t realize at once who was the director of this bloody action...
Osiel Cárdenas Guillén – Unreliable Friend
If your cronies call you “The Friend-Killer” that means you’re really a bad ass. That is the way it was with Osiel Cardenas Guillen. This guy was an unremarkable Mexican mechanic, who nevertheless made backroom deals with the chief of Gulf Cartel, Abrego. He assisted that boss to deliver drug stuff to the United States of America. Finally in 1996 cops caught Abrego on the hook and he was taken in charge. The organization was “beheaded” and at once the war for the leadership began. Two main claimants were Osiel Cardenas Guillen and his best sidekick named Salvador Gomez. Though, their friendship didn’t save the latter from Guillen’s bullet. Thus Osiel got his ominous nickname. He overtook the reins of power in the cartel and started even hiring ex-military from Mexico to assist him in shipping drugs. That criminal crew acted successfully only a few years. Guillen was at last caught and sent to the USA where the court sentenced him to a quarter of century.
Dawood Ibrahim – Satan From India
If you ask, why that guy is among ten most wanted gangsters of the world, you have to cast a look at his misdeeds list. Dawood Ibrahim is accused of murdering hundreds of people, leading the money system which is far from being a legal one, having clout with Bin Laden. Besides he is the chief of the infamous “D-Company” and runs the Hawala system. From Arabic language “Hawala” literally means “transfer”. This is a shadow money transferring scheme which is connected with terrorism financing. And what about the government you would ask? It can do nothing about it. But Dawood is far from being just a swindler, he’s a cold stone killer as well. It was Dawood who organized the explosions in Bombay in the year 1993 which claimed 257 victims and wounded 717. That attack was acknowledged to be the most catastrophic in history for Indians. One of the terrorists, Yakub Memon, was declared guilty and executed in July 2015, but Dawood Ibrahim is still at large.
Griselda Blanco – A Downright Godmother
And here on our crime stage appears a woman, Griselda Blanco, the notorious “Black Widow” and the Goddess of Cocaine, if we may say so. You still think that Pablo Escobar was responsible for all those drugs which were transported to Miami three or four decades ago? Well, that may be, but Griselda turned also to be a quite significant figure on the drug chessboard of that time. She moved to the United States together with her hubby in the beginning of 70s. That deviless possessed a nice intuitive feeling and once NYPD started gunning for her, she gave leg-bail to Colombia. Griselda engineered a drug trafficking which brought her nothing less than eighty million bucks monthly, say nothing of the bloody gang wars she inspired. Finally, police felt that it was time to terminate the horrifying mayhem. At first she managed to escape imprisoning, but then was sent back to Colombia. Griselda Blanco was shot in 2012 by a motorcyclist in the street. The “Black Widow” was 69 years old.
Sandra Avila Beltran – Smart and Dangerous
The next woman was destined to be born in the crime surrounding: an uncle of her had acquired notoriety by murdering DEA member and is now imprisoned, the other uncle headed the Guadalajara Cartel. She was made an intermediary in drug trafficking between America and Anoala Cartel. Sandra made use of her attractive appearance and had two lovers, each of them was killed in unclear circumstances. Notwithstanding great volumes of stuff she was dealing with, that was not so easy to capture this dark-haired lady. She managed to avoid being arrested until the 2000s. It happened that her own son had been abducted, and Sandra had no other choice as to contact police. Afterwards she was immediately detained and did her time in Mexico City. You could hardly say that she suffered from cruel and unbearable conditions in jail. Suffice to say that botox injection were always at her disposal. In the year 2015 she went free.
Frank Lucas – Money Made On Bones
If you look back in our history as far as for the 1960s, you’ll see the country which is far from being politically homogenous. It was the time of terrible Vietnam conflict and stormy manifestations. One guy from Harlem managed to earn his fortune during those restless times. His name was Frank Lucas and he was quirky enough to become flunky of a famous hoodlum Bumpy Johnson. Bumpy died after some time, and young guy decided to take over the reins. Frank grasped the nettle and left for the manufacturing center of heroin, that is for Thailand. Who knows where did that devil’s plan in his head took the final shape, but Lucas invented a downright monstrous scheme. He managed to hide drug staff… into the caskets with remains of perished US soldiers! Thanks to that shocking way of stuff contraband Frank could earn no less than one million dollars a day. The adventurous man is alive by this day.
El Chapo Guzman – "Gingerbread Man"
For those who still think that Colombian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar was the most high-powered among his rivals, we have a surprise. They definitely never heard of the real drug emperor Joaquin “El Capo” Guzman. His monstrous reputation makes him the most dangerous, the most powerful and the most feared drug lord in the world. Joaquin is reported to be among the wealthiest people of Mexico, possessing the total fortune amounting to one billion dollars. El Capo started his bloody career in the seventies, and at first he served as a right hand of the boss. He never endured delays and decided that problems always with murdering the late messenger. Authorities captured him in 1993, but Guzman solved that matter with a bribe and went free. When being freeside, he didn’t loaf away his time and decapitated his rivals. Cops managed to catch him again, but – alas! - that guy slipped away for the second time. Finally last year Guzman has been captured one more time and sent to the US. He waits for the trial… and of course needs constant watching.
